18 fishermen return to Hodeida after months of kidnapping and torture in Eritrean prisons

18 fishermen returned today, Friday,to Hodeida after months of kidnapping and torture in the Eritrean authorities’ prisons.

During their reception at the fishing port in Hodeida, the Director General of Ports and Centers at the Fisheries Authority, Aziz Atini, explained that the fishermen released from Eritrean prisons were 92 fishermen, of whom 18 fishermen arrived in Hodeida, and the remainder of them were in Al-Khokha area.

He called on the international community and organizations working on the humanitarian side to carry out their humanitarian role to stop the crimes of kidnapping, torture and violations committed by the Eritrean authorities against Yemeni fishermen and their violation of international norms and conventions.

While the released fishermen reported that the Eritrean Navy, as usual, kidnapped them while they were practicing fishing in Yemeni territorial waters and took them to its prisons in its Fatima port, indicating that they were subjected to torture and hard labor while they were starving.
