205 Palestinians injured by Israeli forces in occupied Jerusalem

Some 205 Palestinians were injured last night and early Saturday during raids by Israeli occupation forces into Al Aqsa Mosque/ Haram Al Sharif compound and a neighbourhood of occupied East Jerusalem, which touched off clashes with worshippers and local youths, according to medics.

The Palestinian Red Crescent Society said its crews dealt with the injuries in three key flashpoints, Sheikh Jarrah neihbourhood, Damascus Gate and Al-Aqsa, adding that 88 of the injured were transferred to hospitals and 20 were treated at a makeshift clinic that was hastily set up amid rising casualties from army and police raids.

It said the rest were treated on the spot, and that many of those injured were struck in the face, eyes and chest by metal-coated rubber bullets fired by soldiers.

Among the injured were journalists and cameramen who were also targeted as troops fired stun grenades during the storming of the mosque compound, according to Palestinian sources. Israel Public Radio said 17 soldiers and police were hurt when youth and worshippers confronted them with stones and bottles.

Meanwhile, Israeli forces at the Kalandiya military checkpoint north of Jerusalem arrested dozens of people who were returning to their homes in the occupied West Bank after performing evening and late night Ramadan prayers at Al-Aqsa Mosque.
