Former US president Donald Trump is facing new federal charges in the case OF mishandling classified documents.
Among the charges is willful retention of national defense information and two additional obstruction counts, related to alleged attempts to delete surveillance video footage at Mar-a-Lago Club in summer 2022, the CNN has reported citing court documents.
Special prosecutor Jack Smith, who is handling the case, presented additional charges against Trump and his aide, Walt Nauta, and a maintenance worker at the resort Mar-a-Lago, Carlos De Oliveira, with respect of concealing clandestine documents.
The trio were accused of transferring boxes filled with the documents and destroying them and Trump allegedly asked a worker at the resort to delete contents of a security camera.
Trump is set to stand before the court over the case in May. He and Nauta were charged in the probe last month and both pleaded not guilty.
