About 500 People Arrive in Paris on First Two Evacuation Flights from Niger

The European Commission (EC) confirmed on Wednesday that about 500 people arrived in Paris on board the first two flights evacuating foreigners from Niger.

EC also confirmed that more flights are being prepared.

In the wake of the military coup last week and the turmoil in the country, France has allocated four aircraft for its citizens and foreigners who want to leave Niger.

At the request of the France authorities, EC will cover 75 percent of the costs of these evacuations.

French Foreign Minister Catherine Colonna said on Tuesday that France had begun evacuating its citizens from Niger. The first plane carried more than 260 people, including 12 children.

Niger has been seeing violent demonstrations in support of the military coup during the past few days after the overthrowing of President Mohamed Bazoum last Wednesday. (QNA)
