Saudi Arabia Extends An Official Invitation To The Iranian President To Visit Riyadh

The Saudi ambassador to Tehran, Abdullah bin Saud Al-Enzi, expressed today, Wednesday, his happiness at the start of a new chapter in relations with Iran.

Al-Enezi said, according to the Iranian news agency “IRNA,” that “this chapter of relations with Iran will be strong on all trade, economic, and investment levels,” adding that constructive relations with Iran will be based on common interests, mutual respect, and good neighborliness.”

He stated that the Saudi King, King Salman bin Abdulaziz, sent an official invitation to Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi to visit Riyadh, pointing out that “this visit will take place according to the Iranian president’s schedule at the appropriate time.”

He pointed out that "the agreement between Saudi Arabia and Iran is constructive and has many aspects, and it is also a joint security agreement that enhances cooperation between the two countries," stressing that it "will reflect on regional security and contribute to achieving the well-being of the two peoples."

Last March, Riyadh and Tehran announced their agreement to resume diplomatic relations, mediated by China, after years of estrangement.

Diplomatic relations between the two countries were severed in 2016, after Iranian protesters attacked Saudi diplomatic headquarters in Iran, after the Saudi authorities executed the Saudi Shiite cleric Nimr al-Nimr.
