Doha, The Asia Rugby Sevens Trophy for men's and women's organized by the Qatar Rugby and Hockey Committee (QRHC) at Al Ersal pitch in Onazia with the participation of 22 teams, concluded on Saturday.
The final day's competitions were strong and exciting and witnessed the holding of the final rounds where the Thai team won the men's title after defeating Bahrain 17-5 in the final match, while the Kazakh team won third place after defeating Afghanistan 36-5 in the third place match.
As for women, the UAE team won the title by defeating India 26-5 in the final match, while the Iranian women team won third place by defeating Guam 10-0 in the third place match.
The Qatari men's team came in six place after losing to India14-19 in the fifth place match, while the women's team failed to reach the final rounds after strong competition against the teams of the UAE, Iran, and Uzbekistan.
Both Thailand men's team and the UAE women's team qualified for the Asian Series competitions that will be held next year and qualify for the 2027 Rugby Sevens World Cup, where the tournament system stipulates that the champion in the men's and women's categories will qualify.
QRHC President Yousef Jaham Al Kuwari expressed his happiness that the tournament came out in the best possible way at all levels, praising the strength of the competition over two days.
In a statement to Qatar News Agency Al Kuwari said that the Asia Rugby Sevens Trophy is considered one of the game's most successful Asian championships that was held in Qatar with the participation of 22 teams, 15 men's teams and 7 women's teams, according to the Asia Rugby officials, participating delegations and guests of the tournament.
Regarding the Qatari participation, Al Kuwari explained that the Qatari team includes new players in its ranks and they seek to gain experience through participation in these strong tournaments.
