UAE-US Strategic Partnership Strengthened with New Agreements and Investments

Abu Dhabi: His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates, welcomed United States President Donald J. Trump during a state visit to the UAE on May 15-16, 2025. This visit underscored the enduring friendship and shared interests that make the UAE-US partnership a cornerstone of international cooperation.

According to Emirates News Agency, the discussions between the leaders focused on enhancing bilateral cooperation in advanced technology, investment, commerce, energy, science, space, and industry. The UAE announced a $1.4 trillion investment plan in the US over the next decade, a move expected to bolster growth and scientific progress.

A significant outcome of the visit was the establishment of the "US-UAE AI Acceleration Partnership" framework, aimed at fortifying cooperation around critical technologies. This includes the launch of a 1GW AI data centre in Abu Dhabi, part of a larger 5GW technology cluster, which will adhere to US security standards.

Both nations reaffirmed their commitment to a peaceful, cooperative Middle East, emphasising tolerance and peaceful coexistence. They also celebrated achievements in space exploration, particularly the collaboration on the Emirates Mars Mission.

In the realm of security, the two leaders reiterated their resolve to combat terrorism and extremism and strengthen defense ties. The UAE's stance against terrorism was clear, with both nations pledging to work with international partners to ensure global security.

Commercially, President Trump and H.H. Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, hosted a business roundtable with leading CEOs. The UAE, the largest US trading partner in the Middle East, saw bilateral trade reach $34.4 billion in 2024. New investments were announced, including ADNOC's $60 billion expansion with US firms and an Emirates Global Aluminum smelter in Oklahoma.

In energy, the Comprehensive Strategic Energy Partnership was launched between ADNOC and the US Department of Energy, focusing on sustainable growth and energy security. Additional agreements covered oil production, gas expansion, and carbon capture projects.

Cybersecurity was a key focus, with new partnerships established for research and training centres, and continued collaboration on the Counter Ransomware Initiative to enhance global cyber resilience.

New commercial agreements highlighted the visit, including the launch of a Next-Gen Engineering Center in Abu Dhabi, strategic collaborations in AI, and significant energy partnerships. The healthcare sector saw initiatives for precision medicine and innovative delivery models leveraging AI.

The UAE and US also discussed multilateral cooperation, with the UAE co-hosting the 2026 UN Water Conference, and the US preparing for its G20 presidency in 2026.

In cultural exchanges, President Trump visited the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque and explored the Abrahamic Family House, emphasizing the significance of the Abraham Accords for regional peace and interfaith coexistence.

Concluding his visit, President Trump expressed gratitude for the UAE's hospitality and reaffirmed the strength of the bilateral partnership, which now includes plans for a new UAE consulate in Miami, Florida.
