Abu dhabi: The Muslim Council of Elders, chaired by His Eminence Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, has issued a strong condemnation of the Israeli occupation's plans to transfer administrative control of the Ibrahimi Mosque. Currently managed by the Palestinian Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs and the Hebron Municipality, the control is proposed to be handed over to the Jewish Religious Council in the Kiryat Arba Settlement.
According to Emirates News Agency, the Council firmly rejects these actions, describing them as provocative and a serious violation of the mosque's historical and legal status. The Council stresses the need to respect the established status of holy sites within the occupied Palestinian territories.
The Muslim Council of Elders is calling upon the international community to take action in preserving the religious and historical significance of sacred sites. It also highlights the ongoing suffering of the Palestinian people, urging an end to more than seventy years of hardship.
Additionally, the Council demands an immediate cessation of hostilities in the Gaza Strip, the unobstructed delivery of humanitarian aid, and the recognition of the Palestinian people's right to establish an independent state, with Jerusalem as its capital.
