Panama city: The World Free Zones Organisation (World FZO) has announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the government of Panama to host the 12th annual World FZO's World Congress in Panama City in July 2026.
According to Emirates News Agency, the MoU was signed by Dr. Mohammed Al Zarooni, Chairman of the World FZO, and Julio Molt³, Minister of Commerce and Industries of Panama, in the presence of ministers from the Government of Panama and senior officials from both sides. The announcement was made during Dr. Al Zarooni's official visit to Panama City, where he met with Jos© Raºl Molino Quintero, President of Panama, to expand international cooperation in the free zones sector.
Under the MoU, both parties will collaborate to deliver a high-calibre edition of the World FZO World Congress. This event is expected to convene decision-makers, free zone leaders, and investors from over 100 countries and strengthen Panama's global standing as a hub for trade and logistics.
Dr. Mohammed Al Zarooni emphasized the World FZO's commitment to enhancing free zones as drivers of global growth and highlighted the strategic importance of collaboration with Panama. He noted Panama's reputation as a pillar of economic resilience and global connectivity.
Julio Molt³ highlighted the Congress as a strategic step to position Panama as a global investment gateway, emphasizing the country's commitment to providing the necessary elements for the event's success. He expressed the value of the partnership with World FZO in enhancing Panama's business environment.
During the visit, the World FZO delegation toured the Col³n Free Trade Zone and discussed ways to enhance the operational efficiency of free zones through digital governance and smart transformation. They also visited the Panama Canal and PANAPARK Free Zone, where they explored its contribution to Panama's economic development.
These visits align with the World FZO's commitment to enhancing free zones as centers for creativity and investment. Preparations are ongoing for the 11th edition of the World FZO World Congress in Hainan, China, in 2025, highlighting the Organisation's vision for strategic multilateral relationships and sustainable global growth.
