Sharjah: Zainab Jassim Al Sajwani, Head of the Media Department at the Sharjah Fish Resources Authority (SFRA), announced the launch of the inaugural "Future Fishermen" summer programme. This initiative, developed in collaboration with Sharjah Youth and the Aqua Fishing Academy, is designed for 50 students aged 14 to 16.
According to Emirates News Agency, the programme spans three weeks and will take place across five locations within the Emirate of Sharjah. It aims to cultivate marine fishing skills while boosting environmental and community consciousness among participants.
Al Sajwani highlighted in statements to 'Sharjah 24' that this programme marks a significant evolution in the summer educational landscape. The initiative seeks to immerse young individuals in marine culture, stressing the importance of safeguarding fisheries as vital economic and cultural assets. The programme comprises both theoretical and practical workshops in Sharjah City, Al Hamriyah, Kalba, Khorfakkan, and Dibba Al Hisn, offering students an all-encompassing field experience blending hands-on learning with direct fishing activities.
Additionally, Al Sajwani noted that the programme's activities are led by expert trainers from the Aqua Academy. Participants are educated on the use of safe fishing gear, adherence to safety protocols, and techniques for responsible interaction with the marine environment. They also attend sessions focused on the sustainability of marine ecosystems, aiming to foster a generation that adopts sustainable fishing practices and upholds the principles of environmental preservation, aligning with the Emirate of Sharjah's goals to maintain its natural resources for future generations.
