GCC Secretary-General Supports Joint Statement on Sudan Conflict


Riyadh: The Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Jassim Mohammed Al-Badawi, has expressed his support for the joint statement released by the quadripartite meeting involving Egypt, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and the United States concerning the ongoing conflict in Sudan.



According to Union of OIC News Agencies, Al-Badawi commended the principles highlighted in the statement. These principles include respecting Sudan’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity, calling for an immediate ceasefire, and facilitating safe and unhindered access to humanitarian aid throughout the country. The statement also emphasizes the protection of civilians and civilian infrastructure in line with international humanitarian law and advocates for a transition to a comprehensive and transparent political process. This process aims to establish a civilian government that holds broad legitimacy and aligns with the aspirations of the Sudanese people for security and stability.



The Secretary-General reiterated the full support of GCC states for these international and Arab efforts. He also confirmed the Council’s readiness to collaborate with various partners to promote lasting peace, alleviate the suffering of the Sudanese population, and ensure the preservation and stability of Sudanese state institutions.
