Dubai: The General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) has awarded the UAE’s first U-Space Service Provider (USSP) certificate to Dubai Air Navigation Services (dans). This certification aligns with the GCAA’s initiative to regulate the unmanned aircraft sector and establish a supportive legislative and regulatory framework.
According to Emirates News Agency, the certification is a result of the UAE’s first national regulation for approving UAS service providers, issued in March. This certification marks the initial practical implementation of the regulation, showcasing the UAE’s readiness to support safe and organized drone operations.
Saif Mohammed Al Suwaidi, Director-General of the GCAA, emphasized the significance of the certification, stating it is a crucial step in executing the national UAS regulation. He highlighted the GCAA’s commitment to innovation while maintaining safety and operational efficiency standards. Al Suwaidi also commended DANS for their technical excellence throughout the certification process.
Ibrahim Ahli, CEO of dans, expressed honor in being the first organization in the UAE to receive the USSP certification. He noted that the recognition is a result of extensive collaboration with the GCAA and reflects dans’ strategic focus on future airspace management and unmanned traffic integration.
To support the regulation’s practical application, dans, in partnership with Dubai Aviation Engineering Projects and ANRA Technologies, developed a platform to manage UAS traffic. The platform facilitates immediate flight approvals, integrates radar and weather data, and enhances conflict detection and avoidance while supporting future urban air mobility applications.
The certification process required detailed coordination between the entities, involving operational readiness assessments, system validations, and alignment with international standards. This demonstrates the UAE’s regulatory foresight and digital infrastructure maturity in the aviation sector.
The certification highlights the UAE’s strategic intent to become a global leader in smart air mobility and airspace innovation, enabling secure and efficient U-space airspace for drone operations.
