Federal National Council Engages in IRENA Forum on Renewable Energy Transition

Abu dhabi: The Federal National Council (FNC) participated in the IRENA Legislators and Regulators Forum 2026, held in Abu Dhabi under the theme 'Rethinking the Framework: Powering the Renewable Energy Transition.' The forum focused on how legislative and regulatory actions can accelerate the deployment of renewable energy, unlock large-scale investments, and ensure that the transition delivers socio-economic benefits.

According to Emirated news Agency, the FNC delegation included Dr. Ali Rashid Al Nuaimi, Chairman of the Defence Affairs, Interior and Foreign Affairs Committee at the Council and representative of the Inter-Parliamentary Union at the forum, and Dr. Sedra Rashid Al Mansouri, FNC member. Dr. Al Nuaimi delivered a speech emphasizing energy as a fundamental pillar for achieving shared prosperity and building a future that serves all humanity. He highlighted the importance of equitable access to energy as a stabilizing factor and called for parliamentary dialogue and partnerships to address global challenges.

Dr. Sedra Rashid Al Mansouri delivered the Federal National Council's address on behalf of Saqr Ghobash, Speaker of the Federal National Council. She stressed the need to discuss the energy transition within a scientific and humanitarian framework, considering the challenges of climate change. Dr. Sedra noted that renewable energy is a necessity rather than a technical option, supported by international reports on the risks facing communities. She emphasized the role of the Federal National Council in reinforcing climate governance and aligning policies with the UAE's national commitments.
