Khalifa University Unveils AI and Sustainability Innovations at WFES

Abu dhabi: Khalifa University of Science and Technology is showcasing cutting-edge solutions in artificial intelligence and sustainability, covering intelligent waste sorting to advanced water treatment and desert greening technologies, at the World Future Energy Summit (WFES) 2026, part of Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week.

According to Emirates News Agency, Professor Bayan Sharif, Provost of Khalifa University, stated that the projects being showcased at the summit highlight transformative technologies in artificial intelligence and sustainability, emerging from the university's core research centers. The innovations include an AI-based autonomous material sorter and 2D-enabled functional membranes for water treatment and desalination.

Members of Khalifa University's outreach program, the Young Future Energy Leaders (YFEL), are also participating in the summit. They will present their project proposals, engage in debates, and interact with business leaders while attending various sessions.

Additionally, Khalifa University's commercial arm, Khalifa University Enterprises Company (KUEC), is presenting two promising technologies with defined commercialization pathways. These include sustainable soil enhancement solutions derived from plant-based waste fibers for arid agriculture and a solvent-based high-temperature delamination process for efficient recycling of photovoltaic modules.
