UAE Contributes $5 Million to Support Emergency Humanitarian Response in Sudan

Abu dhabi: The United Arab Emirates has pledged a contribution of US$5 million to support the Sudan Humanitarian Fund as part of an agreement signed with the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA). This initiative aims to strengthen the emergency humanitarian response and address the urgent needs of affected populations in Sudan.

According to Emirates News Agency, the agreement was signed between the UAE Aid Agency and OCHA, attended by Dr. Tareq Ahmed Al Ameri, Chairman of the UAE Aid Agency. The signatories included Rashid Salem Al Shamsi, Executive Director of Logistics Support at the UAE Aid Agency, and Sajeda Al Shawa, Head of OCHA's Office in the UAE.

Dr. Al Ameri emphasized the UAE's ongoing commitment to humanitarian response efforts amidst the conflict in Sudan, expressing solidarity with those affected by the civil war. He highlighted the need for intensified collective humanitarian efforts to address the deteriorating situation, including large-scale displacement to neighboring countries.

Sajeda Al Shawa conveyed appreciation for the UAE's generous contribution, stating that it would enhance efforts led by the United Nations to reach vulnerable communities in Sudan. She noted the importance of timely delivery of life-saving assistance and praised the UAE's dedication to ensuring aid reaches those most in need.

The UAE remains committed to providing sustained humanitarian support to Sudan. Over the past decade, the UAE has contributed $4.24 billion in assistance to Sudan, with $784 million allocated since the current crisis began.

The UAE underscores the importance of collective action with international partners and calls for a humanitarian ceasefire to protect civilians and facilitate the safe delivery of assistance, contributing to stability and peace in Sudan.
