Jerusalem: Israel is preparing for the possibility of receiving a green light from the US to launch an attack on Iran’s ballistic missile system, the Israeli public broadcaster KAN reported late Wednesday.
According to Anadolu Agency, KAN noted the scenario of Israel striking Iran’s ballistic missiles comes amid widespread focus on whether US President Donald Trump will order an attack on Iran. Israeli security establishment assessments over the past 24 hours indicate a rising likelihood of a US attack on Iran, following the latest round of talks between Washington and Tehran, as reported by the Israeli daily Haaretz.
The report from Haaretz added that assessments by the security establishment suggest significant gaps remain between the US and Iran, particularly concerning the demand that Iran cease uranium enrichment on its territory. These gaps persist despite Iran’s public statements at the conclusion of the Geneva talks. As negotiations have reached a dead end, Israel anticipates that Trump may resort to a military option sooner than previously expected.
In the event of a US attack, the possibility of the Israeli army taking an active role in combatting Iran is not being ruled out. The report highlighted the close coordination between the US and Israel in intelligence, information technology, military communications, and air defense fields.
Recent talks on Iran’s nuclear program, mediated by Oman, took place in Geneva on Tuesday, following a previous round in Muscat on February 6. Israeli preparations occur as US military deployments in the Middle East continue to rise, accompanied by US media reports suggesting the Trump administration is nearing a significant military confrontation with Iran, despite ongoing negotiations.
Information from social media accounts that track and analyze flight data indicated that the US has dispatched a substantial number of fighter jets, aerial refueling aircraft, and Airborne Warning and Control System (AWACS) aircraft over the past 48 hours to its bases in Europe and the Middle East.
