Ankara: A report prepared by the National Solidarity, Brotherhood and Democracy Commission, established in the Turkish parliament to support the goal of a ‘terror-free Trkiye,’ was adopted by a majority vote on Wednesday. The commission, which convened for its 21st meeting under the leadership of Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmus, saw participation from 50 members.
According to Anadolu Agency, the report was subjected to a vote following speeches from various parliamentary groups and political parties. Lawmakers decided on the report with 47 votes in favor, 2 against, and 1 abstention. The commission’s establishment is part of a broader initiative to assess the political and legal dimensions of the period following the dissolution of the PKK.
The PKK, recognized as a terrorist entity by Trkiye, the US, and the EU, declared its dissolution last year. This came after a February 2025 appeal by its imprisoned leader, Abdullah Ocalan, urging an end to the protracted conflict. On July 11, 2025, a notable surrender occurred when 30 PKK members, including 15 women, laid down arms in Iraq’s Sulaymaniyah province, symbolically destroying their weapons.
The National Solidarity, Brotherhood and Democracy Committee’s work reflects efforts to navigate and consolidate peace in the post-terror landscape, aiming to foster a stable and unified future for Trkiye.
