Ankara: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has underscored Turkey’s indispensable role in shaping a credible European security framework and emphasized the importance of Turkey’s contributions to global peace initiatives. Speaking aboard a return flight from Ethiopia, Erdogan stressed that Europe cannot effectively build a defense mechanism without Ankara’s involvement.
According to Anadolu Agency, Erdogan highlighted Turkey’s positive contributions to the EU over the years, urging for its inclusion in Europe’s defense and security frameworks. He questioned the EU’s ability to remain relevant amidst global changes, advocating for the removal of ideological barriers to integrate Turkey into Europe, thus fortifying the continent’s power. He asserted that excluding Turkey from European defense discussions is illogical and emphasized Turkey’s military prowess as one of NATO’s largest and most capable forces.
Erdogan also revealed that Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan will represent Turkey at the upcoming Board of Peace meeting in Washington, focusing on Gaza. He expressed hope for achieving stability, a ceasefire, and peace in the region, emphasizing Turkey’s commitment to supporting initiatives beneficial to the Palestinian people and advocating for a two-state solution.
During his visit to Ethiopia, Erdogan underscored Turkey’s non-colonialist history and its equal partnership with African nations. He highlighted Turkey’s increasing diplomatic presence in Africa, with 44 embassies currently on the continent, and noted the significant investment and trade relations with African countries. The visit also involved discussions on enhancing trade, investment, and cooperation in various sectors, including the defense industry and energy.
Erdogan emphasized Turkey’s support for Syria’s fight against terrorism, stating that Ankara is closely monitoring developments and providing necessary guidance for implementing agreements. He reinforced Turkey’s goal of achieving a ‘Terror-free Trkiye’ and expressed satisfaction with positive developments in Syria.
Regarding Iran, Erdogan stated Turkey’s opposition to military intervention, advocating for dialogue between Iran and the US. He highlighted Turkey’s role as a mediator, fostering peace rather than conflict, and emphasized the importance of diplomacy in maintaining regional stability.
