Dubai: The Dubai Police Iftar Cannon, a significant event held annually during the holy month of Ramadan, will focus on celebrating major contributors to the Edge of Life campaign this year. The campaign, initiated by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, aims to rescue five million children from hunger and is seeking to raise at least AED1 billion to combat childhood hunger globally.
According to Emirates News Agency, the daily live broadcast of the Dubai Police Iftar Cannon on Dubai TV and Sama Dubai TV will announce the name of one of the contributors who donated AED1 million or more. This initiative is designed to motivate more individuals and institutions to participate in the campaign.
Lieutenant General Abdulla Khalifa Al Marri, Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police, emphasized that the campaign reflects the UAE's culture of giving and generosity. Launched during Ramadan, the campaign underscores the nation's dedication to providing humanitarian aid to vulnerable communities worldwide, ensuring sustainable access to food for millions of children at risk of hunger.
Al Marri expressed, "This blessed Ramadan campaign conveys profound humanitarian messages that embody our leadership's vision for aiding the less fortunate. Dubai Police is honored to support this campaign, which highlights our community's values. Our participation reflects a commitment to supporting the UAE's humanitarian and charitable efforts, further extending Dubai Police's role in championing philanthropic efforts in our community."
The campaign targets children in the most vulnerable areas affected by natural disasters and conflicts, highlighting the alarming statistic that five children under the age of 5 die from malnutrition and hunger every minute worldwide.
Operating under the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives (MBRGI), the campaign aims to implement sustainable programs to combat childhood hunger globally. It is organized in collaboration with UNICEF, Save the Children, the Children's Investment Fund Foundation (CIFF), and Action Against Hunger.
The campaign continues to welcome donations from institutions and individuals through several channels, including its website (www.edgeoflife.ae) and a dedicated call center at the toll-free number (800 4999). Contributions can also be made via bank transfers in UAE dirhams to the campaign's account with Emirates Islamic Bank (IBAN: AE940340003708472909222).
Additionally, donations via SMS are available by sending the word 'LIFE' to specified du and e numbers, with options to donate AED10, AED50, AED100, or AED500. Other platforms for donations include the DubaiNow app, YallaGive.com, and Dubai's community contributions platform Jood (Jood.ae).
