Dubai: Suhail Mohamed Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, has highlighted the urgency of enhancing the resilience of global supply chains and diversifying trade routes in light of accelerating geopolitical developments, especially in critical maritime corridors. He emphasized the need for a clear and proactive strategy to address these challenges and ensure the security of key international waterways.
According to Emirates News Agency, Al Mazrouei's remarks were made during his participation in the Transport and Logistics Forum in St. Petersburg, Russia. The forum, inaugurated by President Vladimir Putin, focused on advancing logistics, digitizing the transport market, and fostering international cooperation in developing modern transport systems. President Putin underscored the transport and logistics sectors as fundamental to the global economy, currently facing significant geopolitical challenges.
During the forum's opening ministerial session, Al Mazrouei presented the UAE's vision for an integrated and resilient transport and logistics ecosystem. He pointed out the threat posed by Iran's actions in the Strait of Hormuz, which endangers global supply chains and impacts international market stability. Al Mazrouei called for collective international efforts to protect navigation freedom and secure supply routes.
He stressed the strategic importance of certain maritime corridors as vital components of the global economy that should remain secure. Al Mazrouei warned against any tolerance of practices that could threaten these routes, emphasizing the shared responsibility of the international community to ensure the safety of vessels and the marine environment.
Al Mazrouei highlighted the UAE's proactive investments in advanced infrastructure, such as its national railway network, which enhances freight movement efficiency and sustainability. He noted regional projects like the Hafeet Rail Project with Oman as examples of the UAE's commitment to expanding trade capacity and economic integration.
Further, he lauded the UAE's ports as global re-export hubs, strengthening regional and international market connections. Al Mazrouei called for stronger international coordination and continued investment in resilient infrastructure to sustain global supply chains.
On the forum's sidelines, Al Mazrouei engaged in bilateral discussions with transport ministers from Russia and Uzbekistan, focusing on enhancing cooperation and strategic partnerships in transport and logistics. Accompanied by a high-level UAE delegation, Al Mazrouei's participation underscores the UAE's commitment to reinforcing its international presence in the sector.
