Abu dhabi: Under the patronage of H.H. Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, the Mother of the Nation, the Fatima Bint Mubarak Ladies Sports Academy has announced the organisation of the Fatima Bint Mubarak Academy International Blitz Chess Tournament for Ladies - 8th Edition. The event will take place on 25 April 2026 at the Academy's headquarters in Abu Dhabi.
According to Emirates News Agency, the tournament is also held under the directives of Sheikha Fatima Bint Hazza bin Zayed Al Nahyan and will be conducted under the Swiss system, featuring nine rounds of rapid matches. The competition aims to bring together players from various nationalities and age groups, offering a total prize pool of AED 40,000, along with special awards for top performers in different categories.
Abdullah Al Tamimi, a representative of the Fatima Bint Mubarak Ladies Sports Academy, stated that the 8th edition of the tournament aligns with the Academy's strategic vision to promote chess and enhance its presence in ladies sports. This initiative supports the UAE's and Abu Dhabi's status as a global destination for hosting major international sporting events, attracting elite players worldwide and facilitating experience exchange and technical performance elevation.
He further noted that the tournaments organized annually by the Academy bolster the UAE's position as a global hub for ladies sports, reflecting the Academy's commitment, especially during the Year of the Family, to providing an integrated sports environment. This environment empowers families, People of Determination, and ladies, opening opportunities for players to develop, compete, and gain experience, thus building generations capable of achieving excellence on international platforms.
