Abdullah Bin Zayed Condemns Attack on Barakah Nuclear Plant

Abu dhabi: H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, held a phone conversation with Rafael Grossi, Director-General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), where he condemned the recent unprovoked terrorist attack. The attack involved a drone strike that caused a fire in an electrical generator outside the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant in the Al Dhafra Region. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported, and radiological safety levels remained unaffected.

According to Emirates News Agency, H.H. Sheikh Abdullah emphasized that targeting civilian facilities and vital infrastructure is a violation of international law. He reiterated the UAE's right to respond to such terrorist acts and to take necessary measures to ensure the protection of its security, territorial integrity, and citizens, in line with international law.

The discussion between H.H. Sheikh Abdullah and Rafael Grossi also focused on enhancing cooperation between the UAE and the IAEA. They explored ways to support the peaceful use of nuclear energy while adhering to international safety, security, and non-proliferation standards.

H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan expressed the UAE's commitment to backing the IAEA's pivotal role in promoting nuclear safety and security on both regional and international fronts.
