Abu dhabi: The fifth round of the third edition of the Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Jiu-Jitsu Championship wrapped up at Mubadala Arena in Zayed Sports City, Abu Dhabi, marking a successful conclusion for the Under-12, Under-14, and Under-16 divisions. Baniyas Jiu-Jitsu Club emerged victorious in the overall standings, followed by Palms Sports - TEAM 777 and Al Ain Jiu-Jitsu Club in second and third places, respectively.
According to Emirates News Agency, the event drew athletes from leading clubs and academies across the UAE, who competed fiercely over the course of the championship. The final day showcased the youngest athletes, who demonstrated the progress made through their clubs' development programs. The matches were closely contested, reflecting the athletes' technical skills and discipline.
The championship saw a significant turnout of families, emphasizing the crucial role parents play in encouraging young athletes and supporting their sports development. The competitions were graced by numerous dignitaries, including Sheikh Zayed bin Tahnoon bin Zayed Al Nahyan and officials from the UAE Jiu-Jitsu and Mixed Martial Arts Federation.
Younis Haji Al Khoori, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Finance, highlighted the championship's success in fostering young talent and its contribution to building a strong base of athletes in the UAE. He noted the importance of allowing young athletes to compete in a professional environment, gaining valuable experience and confidence.
Mansour Mohammed Al Dhaheri, Board Member of the Federation, commented on the growth of jiu-jitsu in the UAE and the significance of competitions in developing discipline and responsibility among young athletes. He emphasized the need for a long-term approach to athlete development, with continuous improvement as a key measure of progress.
Sumaya Faqeer Mohammed Al Baloushi, a parent of two Palms Sports Academy athletes, expressed the positive impact of jiu-jitsu on her children's lives, including discipline and composure under pressure. She praised the championship for providing valuable experiences for young athletes, regardless of the outcome.
Mariam Rashid Mohammed of Baniyas Club, gold medalist in the Under-14 57kg division, shared her enthusiasm for continuing her training and achieving success in future competitions.
