Dubai: The UAE Water Aid Foundation (Suqia UAE) has announced a surge in global interest for the fifth cycle of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Water Award. This award, part of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives, aims to address water scarcity using innovative solutions powered by clean and renewable energy.
According to Emirates News Agency, the award encourages the use of advanced technologies, including artificial intelligence and machine learning, to develop sustainable solutions for underserved communities. Suqia UAE has invited universities, research centers, companies, organizations, and innovators worldwide to submit applications by the deadline of September 30, 2026. Submissions are expected to include clear and detailed technical data to support robust evaluation.
Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Suqia UAE, emphasized that the award aligns with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum to position the UAE as a global hub for innovation. He noted that the award serves as an international platform inspiring the development of groundbreaking solutions for providing clean and safe water to those in need by leveraging clean energy and emerging technologies.
Mohammed Abdulkareem Al Shamsi, Acting Executive Director of Suqia UAE, highlighted the need for comprehensive technical information in applications. This includes operational conditions, technologies used, and measurable results supported by documented evidence. The emphasis is on demonstrating the effectiveness and tangible impact of proposed solutions.
The fifth cycle focuses on solutions driven by digital transformation, utilizing AI and machine learning to enhance performance and sustainability in the water sector. The award encourages showcasing how emerging technologies can maximize solution effectiveness, scalability, and sustainability. It also requires applicants to integrate renewable energy and conduct environmental assessments throughout various stages of water management.
The award offers a total prize pool of US$1 million, distributed across four main categories: Innovative Projects Award, Innovative Research and Development Award, Innovative Individual Award, and Innovative Crisis Solutions Award. Each category is designed to recognize and support groundbreaking efforts in the water sector.
