Abu dhabi: The General Women's Union (GWU) and the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MOCCAE), in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, have successfully concluded the 'Future Women Farmers' training programme. This initiative was part of the 'We Grow for Sustainability' campaign launched by GWU, held under the patronage of H.H. Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Mother of the Nation.
According to Emirates News Agency, the programme reflects Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak's vision to enhance agricultural development and empower future generations for sustainable food security. The initiative aligns with the National Food Security Strategy 2051 and the UN's declaration of 2026 as the International Year of the Woman Farmer. The programme is part of the UAE's commitment to empowering women in agriculture and preparing them to lead sustainable agricultural practices.
The training empowered female students nationwide by teaching them modern agriculture fundamentals and environmental awareness through interactive activities. It promoted teamwork and collaboration while introducing best practices for sustainable natural resource management.
The curriculum emphasized sustainable agriculture, focusing on producing food while maintaining soil fertility and promoting biodiversity. It introduced modern technologies like vertical farming and hydroponics to improve resource efficiency and reduce water consumption.
Noura Khalifa Al Suwaidi, Secretary-General of the General Women's Union, highlighted the programme's role in empowering Emirati women. She expressed pride in the strategic partnership with MOCCAE and the Ministry of Education, which provided young women with agricultural knowledge and instilled values of national responsibility.
Mohammed Saeed Al Nuaimi, Undersecretary of MOCCAE, praised the programme as a model for empowering women in agriculture. He emphasized the ministry's commitment to investing in Emirati female talent and equipping them with modern agricultural skills, supporting the UAE's National Food Security Strategy 2051.
Over four months, 190 female students participated in workshops and activities to expand their knowledge of sustainable agriculture and food security. The programme introduced advanced agricultural technologies and national initiatives like 'Plant the Emirates,' supporting agricultural sector development and farmer empowerment.
The programme demonstrated the commitment of GWU, MOCCAE, and the Ministry of Education to develop initiatives that invest in Emirati youth, aligning with the leadership's vision for a sustainable future.
