DEWA and World Economic Forum Explore Sustainability and Technology Cooperation

Dubai:Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Managing Director and CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), met with a high-level delegation from the World Economic Forum (WEF) led by Alois Zwinggi. The discussions centered on cooperation in sustainability, technology, and economic development in anticipation of the Davos 2027 event.

According to Emirates News Agency, the meeting included DEWA representatives Eng. Marwan bin Haidar, Executive Vice President of Innovation and the Future, and Eng. Waleed bin Salman, Executive Vice President of Business Development and Excellence. Al Tayer presented DEWA's initiatives in clean energy, digital transformation, and the integration of artificial intelligence and Fourth Industrial Revolution technologies.

Al Tayer highlighted DEWA's international accomplishments, including its top ranking in 13 global Key Performance Indicators. Dubai has achieved the lowest Customer Minutes Lost (CML) for electricity globally, with an average of 0.82 minutes per customer annually, and maintained electricity transmission and distribution losses at just 2 percent.

He also discussed the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050, aiming for 100 percent clean energy by 2050. A key project supporting this goal is the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, the world's largest single-site solar park using the Independent Power Producer model. The park's capacity is set to exceed 8,000 MW by 2030, up from the original target of 5,000 MW, significantly reducing carbon emissions by more than 8.5 million tonnes annually.

Al Tayer emphasized DEWA's adoption of artificial intelligence over the past decade to enhance operational efficiency and services. He reaffirmed DEWA's partnership with the WEF, which began in 2018 when it became the first government utility to join the Forum's Centre for the Fourth Industrial Revolution. This partnership is focused on emerging technologies, anticipating future challenges, and developing long-term strategies.
