Dubai Municipality Unveils Accessibility Initiatives at Expo

Dubai:Dubai Municipality is presenting a broad range of projects and smart solutions aimed at empowering People of Determination and enhancing universal accessibility at the AccessAbilities Expo 2026, held at Dubai World Trade Centre. The event showcases initiatives designed to improve the quality of life for individuals with disabilities.

According to Emirates News Agency, the Municipality's efforts focus on integrating accessibility into public facilities, urban spaces, and municipal services. The initiatives include accessible beaches, assistive technologies, and community engagement, all aimed at enabling People of Determination to participate independently in daily activities.

Among the developments are accessible beach infrastructures at Jumeirah Beach 2 and Khor Al Mamzar, which include swimming platforms and pathways, dedicated parking, and specialised wheelchairs. Sensory rooms across parks and beaches also provide supportive environments for various sensory needs.

Furthermore, Dubai Municipality is introducing NaviLens, a navigation solution for the visually impaired, which uses smartphone-detected markers to offer audio and text guidance in over 35 languages. This system underscores the Municipality's commitment to adopting assistive technologies.

The event also marks the graduation of participants from the Inclusion Coordinators Programme, which focuses on supporting workplace inclusion for People of Determination. Additionally, the 'Access Ambassadors' initiative encourages community involvement in improving building accessibility.

Dubai Municipality plans to sign an agreement with the Emirates Down Syndrome Association to enhance collaboration on accessibility and inclusive design. This partnership will focus on developing joint initiatives and drawing on the Association's expertise to evaluate and improve accessibility solutions.
