Abu Dhabi Releases Blueprint for Integrated Reproductive Medicine

Abu Dhabi:Future Health, a Global Initiative by Abu Dhabi, has unveiled a new white paper titled "The Future of Fertility From IVF to Integrated Reproductive Medicine." This document, developed in collaboration with PwC Middle East, explores the transformative impact of advancements in science, genomics, artificial intelligence, and digital health on reproductive medicine. It also highlights Abu Dhabi's efforts to implement systemic changes in reproductive health.

According to Wam, the white paper emphasizes a shift from traditional in-vitro fertilization (IVF) procedures to a comprehensive model that supports individuals and families throughout their reproductive-health journey. The Abu Dhabi Programme for the Future of Reproductive Health, led by the Department of Health - Abu Dhabi, focuses on three pillars awareness and prevention, access to healthcare services, and enabling capabilities involving regulation, genomics, and technology.

The document describes how Abu Dhabi is already putting this integrated approach into practice. Initiatives include the expansion of the IFHAS comprehensive screening programme by the Abu Dhabi Public Health Centre, preconception-care standards, and a broadened premarital genetic screening programme. By 2026, 11,748 couples had undergone screening, identifying 565 cases of genetic incompatibility, enabling access to genetic counselling and healthcare services.

Furthermore, Abu Dhabi has implemented common standards for IVF care, requiring licensed providers to report clinical outcomes and assign dedicated IVF care coordinators to patients. The emirate reported an IVF success rate of 59% in 2026, with a goal to reach 80% by 2030.

Osama AbuHantash from PwC Middle East highlights the potential of shifting from a reactive approach to infertility towards a proactive model focusing on prevention, risk identification, and informed decision-making. The white paper outlines areas for future development, including comprehensive reproductive care, integrating technology with scientific discovery, and ensuring innovation is underpinned by robust evidence and governance.

The white paper is part of Future Health's Abu Dhabi Blueprints series, reflecting the 2026 theme "To Sense is to Predict," which aims to support predictive, preventive, and personalized health approaches.
