Abu Dhabi Conference Highlights Innovation in Diabetes Care

Abu dhabi: M42's Imperial College London Diabetes and Endocrine Centre (ICLDEC), in collaboration with HealthPlus Diabetes and Endocrinology Centre, successfully hosted the 3rd Diabetes Education and Technology Conference at Grand Hyatt Abu Dhabi. This event reaffirmed its role as a leading platform for advancing diabetes education and technology in the UAE.

According to Emirates News Agency, the conference attracted more than 500 attendees and over 30 faculty members, showcasing the growing demand for practical, multidisciplinary education in diabetes technology. Healthcare professionals from various fields such as nursing, dietetics, pharmacy, diabetes education, and allied health gathered to explore the technologies transforming diabetes care today.

This year's conference introduced four hands-on workshops, developed in response to delegate feedback, aimed at bridging the gap between technological innovation and real-world clinical practice. With 589 million adults globally living with diabetes, the conference addressed the necessity for healthcare professionals to stay current with rapidly evolving technologies while ensuring effective patient care. Discussions centered on practical, scalable, and clinically adoptable technologies, including artificial intelligence, digital health solutions, continuous glucose monitoring (CGM), and automated insulin delivery (AID) systems.

Dr. Mai Ahmed Al Jaber, CEO of Outpatient Care Cluster at M42, emphasized the importance of innovation in diabetes care, stating that it creates value only when healthcare professionals feel confident using it in practice. The conference facilitated education, strengthened cross-disciplinary collaboration, and supported the adoption of innovations that can improve patient care.

The event also highlighted the importance of peer exchange and professional dialogue in a rapidly evolving field like diabetes technology. Through expert presentations and hands-on workshops, delegates had the opportunity to share perspectives, learn from real clinical experiences, and enhance their ability to apply emerging tools in day-to-day practice.

Dr. Tomader Ali, Manager Diabetes Education at Outpatient Care Cluster at M42, pointed out the significance of relevance in diabetes education alongside expertise. The conference was designed to provide delegates with practical exposure to clinically relevant digital technology tools that enhance algorithm-driven decisions and conversations shaping care today. Dr. Ali expressed excitement over the national resonance of the conference and anticipated building on its success in future editions.

Dr. Imad Alostaz, Manager, Pharmacy Services, Outpatient Cluster, M42, noted the practicality and relevance of the conference, both in content quality and peer learning opportunities. He looks forward to future editions and continuing important conversations in the field.

As the UAE strengthens its position as a regional hub for healthcare innovation, initiatives like the Diabetes Education and Technology Conference are crucial in enhancing professional education, fostering multidisciplinary collaboration, and supporting the practical adoption of technologies that can improve diabetes care. By investing in education, innovation, and knowledge-sharing, ICLDEC and HealthPlus Diabetes and Endocrinology Center are equipping healthcare professionals with the expertise needed to keep pace with change and shape the future of diabetes care in the UAE.
