ADNOC, Masdar, and Microsoft Forge Strategic Alliance for AI and Low-Carbon Energy Solutions.


Abu Dhabi: ADNOC and Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (Masdar) announced a Strategic Collaboration Agreement with Microsoft, focusing on artificial intelligence and low-carbon initiatives to decarbonise the current energy system and promote sustainable energy for the future. This announcement was made at ADIPEC, currently being held in Abu Dhabi, highlighting the ambition to integrate AI and renewable energy solutions globally.

According to Emirates News Agency, the agreement involves exploring renewable energy options to power Microsoft’s data centres with Masdar’s resources. Additionally, the collaboration will advance AI in carbon capture, low-carbon ammonia, and hydrogen projects. AI deployment across ADNOC’s operations will be accelerated to improve efficiency, reduce methane emissions in line with the Oil and Gas Decarbonisation Charter, and enhance biodiversity monitoring for environmental protection.

ntial of AI in addressing global energy challenges and unlocking long-term benefits within the energy sector. The agreement aligns with the insights from the Powering Possible: AI and Energy for a Sustainable Future report, urging greater collaboration between technology and energy sectors to leverage AI for energy transition.

Brad Smith, Vice Chair and President of Microsoft, underscored the dual necessity of advancing AI while shifting to a sustainable economy, advocating for collaborative efforts across various sectors to generate carbon-free energy and enhance energy access worldwide.

Mohamed Jameel Al Ramahi, CEO of Masdar, expressed confidence in AI’s pivotal role in accelerating the energy transition, aiming to deliver clean energy to support the AI-driven future. ADNOC’s AI initiatives have already contributed significantly to its Net Zero by 2045 goals, reducing 1 million tonnes of CO2 and generating substantial value in 2023.
