AI Best Practices Highlighted at Conference Supporting People with Autism

Abu dhabi: The Fourth International Autism Conference 2026, organised by the Zayed Authority for People of Determination under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Khalid bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Authority's Board of Trustees, is discussing strategic themes including early intervention and diagnosis, artificial intelligence and digital health, employment and workplace inclusion, institutional integration, and transforming research into practical applications.

According to Emirates News Agency, the conference is held from 25 to 28 April at the Abu Dhabi Energy Center under the theme 'Autism: Innovation and Artificial Intelligence.' It features an integrated scientific programme with specialised scientific sessions and interactive workshops led by leading international experts. The event includes panel discussions and visual presentations showcasing best practices and global experiences in supporting and empowering individuals with autism spectrum disorder.

Khulood Abdul Rahim, Director of the Care and Rehabilitation Centres Department at the Zayed Authority for People of Determination and Chair of the Higher Committee organising the conference, emphasized the event's focus on highlighting best practices aligned with modern technology. She noted that artificial intelligence is used to design tailored educational and rehabilitation programmes for individuals with autism spectrum disorder. AI tools have improved early detection of autism, enabling highly accurate and rapid data analysis and diagnosis at early stages.

The conference also spotlights the role of families as partners in education and rehabilitation, integrating children with autism into society. Dedicated sessions for families allow parents to share their experiences. Hanaa Al Abri, a mother of a child with autism, shared her journey, which inspired her to write the book 'Raising Me,' aimed at building more inclusive communities.

Dr. Taha Ridan, an artificial intelligence expert from Skills4Mind, highlighted the UAE's pioneering role in AI use in autism spectrum disorder. He discussed responsible AI application, focusing on privacy, and emphasized his company's commitment to expertise exchange at the conference.

The event includes an innovation exhibition showcasing the latest technologies and solutions in autism care. Participation from government entities, healthcare institutions, academic organisations, and international bodies enhances integration across sectors, supporting strategic partnerships for efficient and sustainable services. A global media campaign accompanies the conference, aiming to support and empower children with autism and their families.

The conference also features stories of empowerment. Ahmed Al Hashemi, a musician and composer with autism, shared his experience of achieving success with family support, winning international music awards. Yousif Al Mulla, another individual with autism, presented his journey from joining Sharjah Autism Center in 2005 to excelling in art, theatre, sports, and technical fields.
