Parliament Speaker Muhammad Al-Halbousi received, today, Sunday, the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights in Geneva, Volker Türk, and his accompanying delegation, which included the head of the Asia, Pacific, Middle East and North Africa department in the Commission, Francisco Motta, and the spokeswoman for the Commission, Ravina Shamdasani. and the representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations in Iraq, Jeanine Plasschaert.
The meeting discussed, according to a statement by Al-Halbousi's office, a number of issues related to human rights, existing laws that will be presented in the House of Representatives and related to enforced disappearance, freedom of expression, organizing media work, and the importance of completing the formation of the Human Rights Commission by the Council.
The meeting also discussed the conditions of the missing and displaced, issues related to climate change, and the role of the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights in helping to face these challenges.
