Amateur Athletes Excel on 6th Day of Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship.


ABU DHABI: Amid a charged atmosphere and a large turnout of fans, Mubadala Arena witnessed the amateur competitions on Monday as part of the 16th edition of the Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship. Athletes over 30 from leading academies and clubs worldwide competed in the white and blue belt divisions, showcasing their skills and determination.

According to Emirates News Agency, Bruno Barreto, Coach of Commando Group Academy, expressed pride in his team’s performance, noting their strong results in the competitions. The academy took second place in the youth category and led in the amateur events. Barreto expressed confidence in his athletes as they prepare for the masters and professional competitions, aiming for strong results again, having previously won the professional title twice.

Mirsad Vilic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, representing Fight Sports – Ruckus JJ, won gold in the Men’s GI / White / Master 4 / 94KG category. Vilic shared his excitement about winning gold in his first competi
tion at the championship, emphasizing the tough competition and excellent organization. He looks forward to returning next year after starting Jiu-Jitsu just two and a half years ago.

Similarly, Leonardo De Fazio of Italy, representing Jesters Jiu Jitsu, claimed gold in the Men’s GI / White / Master 1 / 56KG category. De Fazio noted a significant improvement in the championship compared to last year, both in audience size and participation, which elevated the level of competition. After focusing more on training and participating in other championships, he successfully reached the podium this year and plans to return next year.
