Arab League Submits Written Statement to ICJ over Palestine

The General Secretariat of the Arab League has submitted a written statement on the issue of Palestine to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) within the framework of issuing an advisory opinion on the implications of Israel's continued violations of the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination.

In a statement on Thursday, the spokesman for the Secretary-General of the Arab League Jamal Rushdi said that the written statement includes evidence and justifications of what the Palestinian people, their land, and their capabilities have been subjected to, including continuous Israeli occupation, colonial settlement construction and expansion, and the application of an apartheid system by the Israeli occupation.

He pointed out that the struggle in the field of international law is of great importance in consolidating Palestinian rights, and in holding Israel legally and morally responsible for its illegal actions in the occupied territories.

The State of Qatar announced Tuesday announced that it has submitted a written memorandum during the sessions of the International Court of Justice to provide an advisory opinion on the legal consequences resulting from the Israeli policies and practices applied in the occupied Palestinian territories, especially Jerusalem, in which it condemned in the strongest terms the ongoing and illegal Israeli occupation of Palestine.

Qatar demanded the court to conclude that Israel's obligations under international law require it to immediately stop its illegal occupation, in addition to providing full compensation for the damage and suffering caused by the occupation.
