Cairo: The first meeting of the Arab Media Excellence Award Committee in its tenth edition was convened today at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States. The meeting was chaired by Talal Al-Haifi, Chairman of the Arab Media Excellence Award Committee, alongside Ambassador Ahmed Rashid Khattabi, Assistant Secretary-General of the League of Arab States and Head of the Media and Communication Sector. Representatives from Egypt, Morocco, Mauritania, Syria, Yemen, and Libya also participated in the discussions.
According to Emirates News Agency, Ambassador Khattabi highlighted that the Technical Secretariat of the Council of Arab Information Ministers is currently classifying the proposed topics. He noted that digital transformation and the impacts of artificial intelligence usage have garnered significant attention due to their substantial effects on the ethics, standards, and environment of journalistic professions and the media content industry.
This meeting is a follow-up on the decision made by the Council of Arab Information Ministers during its 55th session, which took place last November. Khattabi underscored the significance of the Arab Media Excellence Award, which aims to foster quality and excellence in media, enhance the skills of media professionals, and spotlight outstanding media models. It also seeks to elevate professional practice, stimulate innovation, promote fair competition, and renew media discourse across various streams and specialisations. The award categories encompass print, television, radio, and digital media.
