Arab Parliament Leader Urges Non-Aligned Movement to Oppose Israel’s Death Penalty Law

Istanbul: Mohamed bin Ahmed Al Yamahi, President of the Arab Parliament, has called on the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network (NAM PN) to take a decisive stance against Israel's death penalty law targeting Palestinian prisoners.

According to Emirates News Agency, Al Yamahi made this appeal during the fifth conference of NAM PN held in Istanbul. He stressed the importance of the NAM PN as a representative of the free world's conscience. Al Yamahi urged for a resolution that would reject and condemn the controversial legislation, emphasizing the need for international efforts to prevent its enforcement.

Al Yamahi questioned the role of the international parliamentary gathering if it failed to oppose what he described as racist legislation. He highlighted the potential execution of thousands of innocent prisoners under this law as an issue that demands urgent attention from the global community.

In addition to addressing the death penalty law, Al Yamahi spoke on the conference's primary theme, "The Role of Parliaments in Ensuring Climate-Resilient Urbanisation in the Non-Aligned Movement Region." He pointed out that adapting to climate change is an urgent necessity rather than an optional choice.

He called for the enhancement of legislative frameworks to incorporate climate considerations into urban planning, which is essential to tackle the rapid challenges faced by cities worldwide.
