Sharjah: ArcelorMittal Projects, part of the global steel and mining group ArcelorMittal, has announced plans to establish its third plant at the Hamriyah Free Zone in Sharjah (HFZA). The facility will span an area of 1.4 million square feet, with operations expected to commence in 2026.
According to Emirates News Agency, the company’s expansion aims to bolster its production capacity in steel pipe manufacturing and specialised coating solutions. With the addition of this new facility, ArcelorMittal Projects will bring its total investment in HFZA to approximately 5 million square feet, cementing the zone’s status as a global industrial hub.
The expansion was announced during a visit by Saud Salim Al Mazrouei, Director of Hamriyah Free Zone Authority, and senior officials to the company’s premises in the free zone. They were received by Johannes De Schrijver, CEO of ArcelorMittal Projects, along with senior executives. Al Mazrouei toured the existing production lines and was briefed on the advanced inspection and testing units, including ultrasonic and pressure testing systems.
Al Mazrouei highlighted that ArcelorMittal Projects’ investments in HFZA are driven by the zone’s attractiveness for global industrial companies, offering an integrated operational environment and competitive advantages. He noted that the expansion aligns with the National Strategy for Industry and Advanced Technology and will strengthen value chains in the energy and infrastructure sectors.
The continued growth of global companies within HFZA underscores the confidence in Sharjah’s investment environment, contributing to economic diversification and the industrial sector’s role in overall economic development. Al Mazrouei emphasized that HFZA will continue to enhance its facilities and services to meet investor aspirations and enhance competitiveness on regional and international levels.
Johannes De Schrijver stated that the plant expansion is part of a long-term strategic vision to enhance ArcelorMittal Projects’ industrial footprint and support large-scale projects with complex technical requirements. The competitive advantages of HFZA, including its advanced infrastructure and logistics, support the company’s expansion plans by allowing efficient access to a broad customer base.
Since beginning operations in HFZA five years ago, ArcelorMittal Projects has established two HSAW pipe mills and various coating lines. The site also includes custom facilities with advanced testing installations and a laboratory accredited to international standards. HFZA has become a leading hub for heavy industries linked to steel value chains, hosting numerous multinational companies and benefiting from world-class infrastructure and connectivity.
