Abu dhabi: Archer Aviation has conducted test flights of its Midnight electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) air taxi services at Al Bateen Executive Airport in Abu Dhabi. This initiative aligns with the Smart and Autonomous Systems Council (SASC) strategy to advance smart aerial mobility solutions, supported by the Abu Dhabi Investment Office (ADIO). This marks a significant milestone for Archer's planned commercial deployment in the UAE and its regional expansion.
According to Emirates News Agency, the test flight was attended by senior officials from the UAE General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), ADIO, the Integrated Transport Centre, Abu Dhabi Aviation, and Abu Dhabi Airports, alongside representatives from Archer's regional partners. The test aimed to evaluate the aircraft's vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) performance under UAE-specific conditions, such as temperature, humidity, and dust exposure. This evaluation allows Archer to validate its readiness for commercial deployment.
Following this milestone, Archer plans to expand its flight-testing programme for the Midnight eVTOL in the region. The goal is to gather additional data to support the aircraft's certification and commercialisation plans in the UAE and other key regional markets. Badr Al Olama, Director-General of ADIO, emphasized the significance of this achievement in advancing Abu Dhabi's ambition to lead in advanced urban air mobility. The Smart and Autonomous Vehicles Industry (SAVI) Cluster is facilitating companies like Archer in testing, certifying, and scaling next-generation air mobility solutions.
Adam Goldstein, CEO and Founder of Archer Aviation, stated that the initial test flight operations in the UAE are a critical milestone in preparing for commercial deployment in Abu Dhabi. Testing the aircraft in real operating conditions provides essential data to progress commercial and certification efforts in both the UAE and the US.
The test flight supports Archer's Launch Edition commercialisation programme with Abu Dhabi Aviation, aiming to establish air taxi services in Abu Dhabi. This development is part of Archer's broader efforts to advance certification and commercialisation in the UAE and beyond. Recent achievements include regulatory design approval for the UAE's first hybrid heliport at Abu Dhabi Cruise Terminal and ongoing partnerships with leading regional operators.
The Launch Edition programme is central to Archer's strategy for establishing commercial operations in early adopter markets. Abu Dhabi's role as Archer's first Launch Edition market underscores the emirate's leadership in urban air mobility deployment and its commitment to innovative transport and sustainable mobility solutions.
