Bodour Al Qasimi Inaugurates Second Early Childhood Literacy Conference in Sharjah

Sharjah: H.H. Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, Founder and CEO of Kalimat Group, inaugurated the second edition of the Early Childhood Literacy Conference in Sharjah. Organised by Kalimat Group in partnership with the National Academy for Childhood Development and sponsored by National Paints LLC, the event runs from 10th to 12th October at the Higher Education and Scientific Research Council.

According to Emirates News Agency, the conference, the first of its kind in the Arab world, marks a significant development in advancing early childhood education. It brings together experts globally to explore innovative ways of integrating songs, stories, play, arts, and technology into Arabic language learning. The event presents research-based approaches to teaching Arabic in early years, examining the role of artificial intelligence and digital tools in literacy and language development. It also highlights how children's literature and folktales shape identity and nurture a love of reading.

In her keynote address, H.H. Sheikha Bodour emphasized the importance of language in identity, communication, and cultural belonging. She highlighted Sharjah's commitment to fostering modern, creative ways to help children grow confidently in their language and culture. Following the opening ceremony, Sheikha Bodour toured the conference, including the 'Border Crossings' exhibition, which explores the relationship between the natural environment and digital media, and various workshops led by international and local experts.

Dr. Meera Saeed AlKaabi, Chief of the National Academy for Childhood Development, stated that the Arabic language is central to national identity and cultural belongingness. By partnering with the conference, they aim to create a platform to share expertise and present the latest educational practices. Samer Al Sayegh, Managing Director of National Paints LLC, echoed the importance of preserving the Arabic language and exploring creative ways to engage children.

The opening day included a panel discussion on the UAE government's achievements in promoting Arabic in early childhood. The session highlighted national efforts in curriculum reforms, teacher training, and policy initiatives. Strategic and supporting partners were honoured during the ceremony, reflecting the collaborative effort to advance early childhood education.

The conference underscores Kalimat Group's commitment to early childhood education as the cornerstone of language acquisition and cognitive growth. It features a comprehensive programme of panel sessions and workshops led by distinguished speakers, addressing key themes such as evidence-based teaching methodologies and the integration of technology in Arabic instruction. The event aims to equip future generations with a strong foundation in literacy and a lifelong appreciation for the Arabic language.
