China’s permanent representative to the United Nations, Zhang Jun, said on Wednesday that the UN Security Council has not granted any country the right to use force against Yemen.
“We affirm that the Council has never authorized any country to use force against Yemen, and no country may use international law or misuse Security Council resolutions to provoke new tensions in the Red Sea,” the Chinese representative said during a Security Council session on the situation in the Middle East on Wednesday.
He also stressed that the continued escalation and “military actions of some countries against Yemen” have exacerbated the situation in the Red Sea region.
Earlier, the Chinese delegate called for not distorting the provisions of UN Security Council resolutions and not raising new sources of tension, with regard to US and British strikes on Yemen.
