Crane Collapse onto Train in Thailand Results in Over 22 Fatalities

Nakhon ratchasima: A passenger train in north-eastern Thailand was struck when a construction crane collapsed onto it on Wednesday morning, resulting in the deaths of at least 22 people and injuries to around 70 others.

According to Emirates News Agency, the accident occurred in the Sikhio district of Nakhon Ratchasima province, approximately 230 kilometers north-east of Bangkok. The massive steel crane, used for railway construction, collapsed just as the train passed. The impact derailed several carriages, trapping passengers in the wreckage and leading to a fire at the scene.

Initial reports suggest that the crane was part of a high-speed rail project. Thailand's state railway operator, SRT, confirmed that there were 195 people on board the train at the time of the incident. Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the collapse.
