Death Toll from Venezuela Earthquakes Rises to 4,561

Abu dhabi: The death toll from last month's two devastating earthquakes in Venezuela has climbed to 4,561, as announced by National Assembly President Jorge Rodriguez on Monday. The aftermath of the seismic events has left the nation grappling with widespread destruction and a significant humanitarian crisis.

According to Emirates News Agency, a total of 16,740 individuals sustained injuries due to the earthquakes. Efforts by authorities to manage the crisis have included providing assistance to 128,324 families and establishing 107 temporary camps. These camps are currently housing 20,231 people, while 17,907 individuals remain without permanent housing.

The earthquakes, which occurred on June 24, caused extensive damage to infrastructure across the country. Rodriguez reported that 856 buildings were damaged, with 190 of them collapsing entirely. The US Geological Survey recorded the earthquakes at magnitudes of 7.2 and 7.5, striking the South American nation and contributing to the significant loss of life and property.
