Department of Health – Abu Dhabi and Fred Hutchinson Cancer Centre Collaborate to Advance Cancer Research

Abu dhabi: The Department of Health - Abu Dhabi (DoH), the regulatory authority of the healthcare sector in the emirate, along with the Abu Dhabi Public Health Centre (ADPHC), has announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Fred Hutchinson Cancer Centre (Fred Hutch), a leading institution in cancer research. This collaboration aims to advance cancer research, personalized prevention, and precision medicine.

According to Emirates News Agency, the MoU was executed during a visit to Fred Hutch's Seattle campus by Mansoor Ibrahim Al Mansoori, Chairman of the Department of Health - Abu Dhabi. During the visit, Al Mansoori met with Dr. Thomas J. Lynch, President and Director of Fred Hutch, and senior scientific and clinical leaders of the institution to outline the collaborative efforts moving forward.

The partnership aligns with Abu Dhabi's commitment to creating an intelligent, integrated, and patient-centered health system. By combining Abu Dhabi's clinical and genomic data infrastructure with Fred Hutch's research capabilities, the collaboration is expected to accelerate the transition from scientific discovery to tangible patient benefits within Abu Dhabi and beyond.

The organizations plan to leverage Abu Dhabi's advanced health system and integrate Fred Hutch's expertise into Abu Dhabi's existing healthcare framework. This includes the emirate's liquid biopsy program and AI-based multi-cancer early detection work, as well as the world's largest clinically integrated population-scale genomics program.

Mansoor Ibrahim Al Mansoori emphasized the importance of combining science with data and AI for addressing cancer challenges. He noted Abu Dhabi's progress in early cancer detection and expressed the commitment to further advancements through the partnership with Fred Hutchinson Cancer Centre.

The collaboration will focus on multi-omics oncology research, early cancer detection, AI-driven digital health solutions, and prevention and education programs tailored for Abu Dhabi's population. The partnership aims to enhance early detection, personalized treatment, and outcomes for Abu Dhabi residents while presenting a model for global research collaboration.

Dr. Thomas Lynch Jr. highlighted the shared commitment of both organizations to research and high-quality cancer care. He expressed enthusiasm for combining expertise and resources to explore innovative cancer care and research approaches.

This partnership is part of Abu Dhabi's broader agenda in health, technology, and life sciences, contributing to the goal of enabling people to live longer, healthier lives.
