The Minister of Human Rights, Ali Al-Dailami, discussed today with the Secretary-General of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, Akhlaq Al-Shami, and the Director of the Social Guidance House for Boys, Muhammad Al-Arafi, the procedures and measures necessary to protect children from all forms of neglect, abuse, violence and exploitation.
The meeting reviewed the child protection policy plan, identifying sub-objectives and activities within the plan, as well as indicators for measuring and prioritizing them.
The Minister of Human Rights stated that the meeting comes within the framework of seeking to strengthen official, social and civil practices aimed at protecting the children concerned, caring for their rights and achieving their interests.
He stressed the importance of strengthening protection by working to take more deterrent punitive measures for those responsible for the violence of children, pointing to the need to provide the necessary training and awareness programs on children's rights and ways to deal with them, and to develop awareness programs on the concepts of violence, abuse and mistreatment to which children are exposed.
He pointed to the Ministry's keenness to work towards empowering children and their full access to their rights to education, health care, security, etc. He stressed the need for coordination and cooperation between the relevant government agencies and civil society organizations, and the establishment of an integrated relationship between them in a way that serves children and their issues.
For her part, the Secretary General of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood reviewed the roles and tasks carried out by the Council in the field of child protection, stressing the importance of making appropriate adjustments to contain the phenomena of violence and activating and strengthening penalties for child abuse to ensure their protection.
