Abu dhabi: The Department of Health - Abu Dhabi (DoH), the regulatory body overseeing healthcare in Abu Dhabi, has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Eli Lilly Drugstore LLC (Lilly). The agreement was finalized at the BIO International Convention 2026 in San Diego, USA, with a focus on addressing obesity and Alzheimer's disease, two significant health challenges faced in the region.
According to Emirates News Agency, the collaboration between Lilly and DoH plans to explore the creation of an AI-driven obesity healthcare model and establish a world-class Alzheimer's Disease Centre of Excellence in Abu Dhabi. Leena Aziz, Senior Director of Corporate and Government Affairs for the Gulf at Lilly, expressed the company's honor in partnering with DoH. She emphasized the alignment of Abu Dhabi's life sciences ecosystem with Lilly's mission to combine caring and discovery to improve lives. Aziz highlighted that the partnership aims to create a care model integrating AI, population health insights, clinical excellence, and breakthrough science to address obesity and Alzheimer's disease effectively. Lilly is committed to supporting the UAE's goal of developing a more predictive, personalized, and innovative healthcare system.
Dr. Asma Ibrahim Al Mannaei, Executive Director of the Health Life Sciences Sector at DoH, stated that Abu Dhabi has developed one of the most advanced ecosystems for precision medicine worldwide, leveraging population-scale genomics, advanced health data, and clinical excellence. She noted that the collaboration with Lilly enhances Abu Dhabi's ability to translate these capabilities into more personalized approaches for treating obesity and Alzheimer's disease, ultimately improving patient outcomes both within the emirate and beyond.
