DP World Foundation Pledges Support for School Meals in Ecuador

Dubai: DP World Foundation, the philanthropic arm of DP World, has signed an agreement with the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) to support the provision of home-grown school meals in Ecuador. This initiative was announced during a signing ceremony at the World Governments Summit 2026, an event held in Dubai under the theme 'Shaping Future Governments'.

According to Emirates News Agency, DP World Foundation has committed an initial contribution exceeding US$ 535,000 to benefit 2,500 children, with the potential for funding to increase to US$ 1.5 million over three years. The initiative aims to provide students with nutritious meals while supporting local food systems by sourcing ingredients from smallholder farmers.

The program is designed to transform nutrition, enhance local economies, and support education in Ecuador. By connecting local farmers with schools, the initiative hopes to increase farmers' income by 20 to 30 percent, improve student attendance and concentration, and have positive environmental impacts by reducing emissions and protecting biodiversity.

Nasser Abdulla, CEO and Vice Chairman of DP World Foundation, highlighted the organization's commitment to sustainable development, stating, "At DP World Foundation, we believe access to nutritious food and quality education are fundamental to sustainable development. We are committed to strengthening communities, supporting local economies, and creating long-term opportunities for children and families through targeted, high-impact initiatives."

This project marks DP World Foundation's first venture in the Americas and is part of a broader collaboration with WFP. The signing ceremony was attended by representatives from GCC countries, international organizations, donors, NGOs, and private-sector partners, highlighting the importance of collaborative efforts in promoting sustainable development.

Through this initiative, DP World Foundation continues to advance its mission of supporting food aid, community development, and capacity building, while reinforcing the link between corporate social responsibility and inclusive economic growth.
