Abu dhabi: Dubai Future Foundation (DFF), in collaboration with the global autonomous vehicle technology company Oxa, has announced the launch of the Autonomous Logistics Future Lab in Dubai. This initiative is part of a joint venture named SHIFFT, aimed at advancing next-generation autonomous logistics solutions and solidifying Dubai's status as a leading hub for intelligent logistics services.
According to Emirates News Agency, SHIFFT is launched under the Dubai Research, Development and Innovation (RDI) Ecosystem. It is designed to be a platform for developing, testing, and validating advanced autonomous logistics technologies. The goal is to transform emerging innovations into commercially viable solutions while enhancing productivity, operational resilience, and economic value across various logistics sectors.
The joint venture aligns with the objectives of the Dubai Economic Agenda (D33), which includes the ambitious goal of doubling Dubai's foreign trade by 2033. SHIFFT will integrate autonomous driving technologies into a comprehensive logistics platform that combines autonomous operations with data collection, analysis, and operational intelligence. This integration aims to facilitate end-to-end deployment across industrial environments.
The initial phase of the Lab's operations will focus on creating and deploying autonomous vehicle solutions specifically for ports and airports. The partners anticipate the first commercial deployment to occur in Dubai before the end of 2027.
Khalifa Al Qama, Chief of Dubai's RDI Ecosystem, emphasized the initiative's role in developing new intelligent logistics solutions that foster economic opportunities and accelerate the adoption of advanced technologies. He highlighted Dubai's commitment to being a global hub for future logistics services by transforming promising technologies into practical solutions with significant economic and operational impacts.
Paul Newman, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Oxa, remarked on the joint venture's potential to hasten the development and commercial deployment of Industrial Mobile Autonomy technologies. This will enable new levels of efficiency, reliability, and safety for operators of industrial vehicle fleets.
SHIFFT plans to employ configurable autonomous driving software, cloud-based fleet management systems, and specialized autonomy hardware that can be easily integrated with existing industrial vehicles and equipment. This approach will facilitate scalable deployment across logistics environments.
The Dubai RDI Ecosystem, established under the directives of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, provides the overarching framework for Dubai's RDI initiatives. It supports both government and private sector organizations in developing innovative ideas powered by advanced technologies, strengthening Dubai's position as a regional hub for research, innovation, and future industries.
