Dubai: In a concerted effort to provide immediate assistance to conflict-displaced individuals in Lebanon, Dubai Humanitarian has mobilised 192 metric tonnes of relief supplies sourced from the UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency. This initiative, following the directive of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, aims to support communities severely impacted by the ongoing conflict in Lebanon. The supplies are being transported by land, allowing for a more efficient dispatch of the large quantity of aid.According to Emirates News Agency, a convoy consisting of 27 trucks funded by Dubai Humanitarian's Global Humanitarian Impact Fund began its journey on 4 November. The operation is designed to facilitate the swift and orderly distribution of aid, especially crucial as the winter season approaches, intensifying the urgency for humanitarian assistance.His Excellency Mohammed Ibrahim Al Shaibani, Chairman of Dubai Humanitarian, emphasized the significance of this operation, stating, "Guided by the leader ship of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai stands firmly by Lebanon in its time of need. This aid convoy, a powerful symbol of partnership and compassion, reflects our collective commitment to alleviating suffering and bringing hope to communities facing unprecedented challenges."Khaled Khalifa, UNHCR's Senior Advisor and Representative to the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, expressed gratitude towards the UAE's continued humanitarian efforts, highlighting the vital role of this shipment. "This is another significant step in our shared vision with partners in the UAE, such as Dubai Humanitarian. This timely support includes essential relief items that address the urgent needs of displaced families in Lebanon. As they prepare to face the upcoming harsh winter, after losing their homes' safety and warmth," Khalifa stated.The Lebanese government reports that over 1.2 million people have been displaced due to the escalating conflict and intensified Israeli airstrikes, with a majorit y fleeing from regions like South Lebanon, the Bekaa Valley, and the densely populated southern suburbs of Beirut.Relief efforts on the ground are facing a critical shortage of resources, emphasizing the urgent need for additional funding to adequately respond to the crisis. Those involved in these operations stress that current resources are insufficient to meet the needs of everyone affected, with an increasing demand for safe shelters, healthcare, cash assistance, protection services, and psychosocial support taking precedence in the relief efforts.
