Dubai Municipality Triumphs in Wheelchair Basketball at Nad Al Sheba Sports Tournament

Dubai: Sheikh Saeed bin Maktoum bin Juma Al Maktoum, President of the UAE Tennis and Padel Federation, crowned Dubai Municipality as champions of the Wheelchair Basketball competition held during the 13th Nad Al Sheba Sports Tournament at the Nad Al Sheba Sports Complex.According to Emirates News Agency, the event saw notable figures such as Mona Khalifa Hammad, Member of the Federal National Council, Majid Al Osaimi, President of the Asian Paralympic Committee and Member of the Board of Directors of the Dubai Sports Council, and Hassan Al Mazrouei, Director of the Tournament, in attendance as they awarded the winners.In a closely contested final, Dubai Municipality secured their victory over a competitive Dubai Police team with a score of 55-46. The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) team clinched the bronze medal after defeating the Dubai Courts team 64-58 in a play-off.Sheikh Saeed bin Maktoum bin Juma Al Maktoum, along with Hassan Al Mazrouei, also honoured the winners of the UAE Padel Tour 2026's opening event, part of the UAE Tennis and Padel Federation's local ranking tournament 'Ellington 2026'. The Padel Tour, held in collaboration with Ellington Sports Foundation, aims to support emerging talent, enhance competition levels, and provide development pathways for players, fostering a long-term sporting culture in the UAE.The tournament features a calendar of 35 events planned across the UAE for the 2026 season, intending to broaden the sport's reach and bolster its community and competitive presence. The men's title was claimed by Fares Al Janahi and Majid Al Janahi, while Fatima Al Janahi and Aisha Al Awadhi won the women's crown. In the 20-point category, Rashid Kamal and Ali Taghizadeh Najafi triumphed, leaving Abdullah Al Balushi and Abdul Rahman Samer with silver.In men's competition, Ahmed Khaled and Hassan Al Qattan tied for second place, as did Fatima Shahdour and Alia Abdullah Taher in the women's category. The tug-of-war competition saw the National Guard team maintain their winning st reak against Dubai Civil Defence, with the Ministry of Defence team also achieving a victory over Dubai Police in the Government Institutions category.In the Community category quarter-finals, Global defeated Al Jawarih, Al Mahdawi and Al Harbi bested Wasl, IFBB Sports Academy overcame Al Ajban, and Level Up triumphed over AJ Mustafa 1.
