Etihad and TAROM Forge New Flight Connectivity Across Eastern Europe

Abu dhabi: Etihad Airways and TAROM, the national airline of Romania, have entered into a codeshare agreement aimed at enhancing connectivity between Romania, Eastern Europe, and Abu Dhabi. The agreement was formalized during the IATA Annual General Meeting held in Rio de Janeiro.

According to Emirates News Agency, this partnership allows Etihad guests to book a single ticket on TAROM flights from Bucharest to six Romanian cities, including Baia Mare, Cluj-Napoca, Iasi, Oradea, Suceava, and Timisoara. Additionally, the codeshare extends to four Eastern European capitals: Belgrade, Budapest, Chisinau, and Sofia. Romanian travelers, in turn, will have access to Etihad's new service to Abu Dhabi from Bucharest.

The codeshare supports the launch of Etihad's new Abu Dhabi-Bucharest service scheduled for 17th December 2026. Once operational, guests will be able to travel between Bucharest and various destinations across Etihad's network on a single ticket, with their luggage checked through to the final destination.

The agreement provides Romanian travelers with a new connection to Abu Dhabi, facilitating onward journeys to destinations in the Middle East, Africa, Asia, and Australia via Etihad.

Arik De, Chief Revenue and Commercial Officer of Etihad Airways, highlighted the significance of the partnership by stating, "TAROM gives Etihad real depth in Eastern Europe: a flag carrier shaped by more than seven decades of European aviation, and an established network reaching across the country and the wider region. Launching this codeshare ahead of our own Bucharest service means we enter a fast-growing market with genuine scale from day one."

Mircea Nicolae Cotoros, TAROM's Chief Commercial Officer, emphasized the benefits of the partnership, noting that it extends TAROM's international reach and provides passengers with a new connection between Bucharest and Abu Dhabi. The agreement is expected to strengthen the ties between Romania and the Middle East and support the growth of TAROM's network.

With this addition, Etihad's partner network now includes 47 codeshare and over 130 interline partners, offering guests single-ticket and through-fare access to more than 350 destinations worldwide.
